The Republic of Indonesia
— "There are numbers of great women as CEOs, politicians, athletes, professionals, surgeons, notable scholars, movie directors, you name it. The professions that maybe once people thought ‘never in a million years a woman could ever be able to do that’ but here we are.
We are encouraged to chase great shiny dreams, a life of our own, to be the strongest, independent, and imposed the idea of a modern woman, a lady boss, because that’s what a new woman is. The world is cheering for us to be unbreakable, a free soul.
However, when a girl in the room says she prefers to be a stay at home mother, a loving wife to her husband, or when she says she doesn’t wanna go for that master's’ degree, the jeering stares from everyone else would follow, as if she has violated the rule of feminism.
But hey, isn’t it all about choices?
Choices are there for you to choose one that is best for you, choose what will make you live in joy. That’s what women of the world were, and still are, fighting for. For women to have choices.
It is okay if you’re not feeling like jumping on the wagon of this image of ‘a brand new woman’, it doesn’t make you less of one.
Because you know what does it actually take for one to be a woman?
To have courage and compassion."
